Mosaic Internship Newsletter No. 3
Updated: Jun 28
Hello there, readers!
If you have read my previous post on my update for February, you will see that I mentioned that the month went by rather quickly. Well, March seems to have gone even faster! I cannot believe the past four weeks went by in a flash, and what a wonderful month it has been.
In fact, before I update y’all, let us take a moment to praise God. Whether when life is pleasant or terrible, God is always worthy of praise. I just love that the God of the universe, the God of all creation, the God that made you and me, always provides. We may not always see it initially, but God has never left us hanging in the dust. He certainly is deserving of some praise.
Alrighty, moving right along, as I said before, March went by in what felt like an instant. The itch to be outside is growing stronger than ever, now that our days are getting longer, warmer, and full of energy. The snow is steadily melting, and you can even see the pavement on most roads. Where I live, the majority of the grass is already showing, compared to my neighboring towns. Spring has sprung, hallelujah! Sure, it’s an absolute mess outside with the mud and all, but we are excited that summer is quickly approaching. Soon, everything will be a lush green and blossoming.
With that brief update for the weather, here are the fantastic things that happened these past four weeks (for the sake of your time, I will provide the short versions):
I gained a church ministry partner!
As some of you may know, part of my internship with Mosaic Campus Ministry involves raising my own support, that is, my own income. It’s difficult for sure, especially since I am not comfortable asking for things (particularly regarding finances), but it is one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Why? Because it really puts into perspective that 1) it is not my money, but God’s money, 2) God will provide no matter what, and 3) the connections and relationships you gain are spectacular.
That being said, at the beginning of the month, I gained my first church ministry partner and was absolutely blown away by the support they have provided for me. I will keep the name of the church anonymous for the sake of privacy, but it was a church that I was a part of for many years when I lived in Anchorage, AK. I had been out of contact with them for a while, due to transitioning churches in my later high school years. But with a little help from close friends and mentors, I was able to rekindle that relationship once more. So, after a few introductions and brief meetings, they accepted the invitation to join as a ministry partner while also being a supporting block for the ministry!
Not only that, but they contributed more than I could ever imagine. They wanted to give six times my standard amount! I almost cried when I received that phone call; I was so overjoyed. After things were financially tight for a while, I was beginning to feel the creep of doubt at my doorstep, but at that moment, it vanished. Again, praise God that He always comes through.
Mosaic had their annual spring retreat.
Let me just say that was one of the best retreats I have been on in a while. Not only was it in a beautiful location, tucked away in the serene mountains, but it was a wonderful time of community and growth with our students and staff. It was a blessing from God to unplug and retreat (see what I did there?) from the busyness of life. No need to worry about “to-do’s” and “what if’s”, just a time to sit in the presence of God and cultivate fellowship with one another.
Over the weekend, we dived into a series designed to help us connect with God on a deeper, more intimate level. It was also a time of deep reflection on the hard life questions no one particularly wants to ask or think about, but it was necessary. I could see God moving in all those who attended, and I absolutely loved it.
We had a lot of fun too! From tubing on the hills to staying up to 2 AM playing board/card games, a lot of laughter and memories came out of it.
Plus, we were in the mountains; what more could we ask for?
(Just a few pics from the weekend.)
I was invited to come and speak at my home church’s youth group night.
I was actually supposed to do this months ago when I returned from Japan, but due to unexpected illness and complications, it was placed on hold for a while. Thankfully, now that I am doing much better, I was able to partake in this incredible opportunity! Our youth pastor is going through an interview-style series where he invites people to come and speak on specific topics that later reflect our head pastor’s Sunday messages. So, I was invited to come and speak briefly about my Japan experience and passion for missions.
Although I was incredibly nervous, it was a fantastic evening. My time speaking was brief, but I felt the Holy Spirit use me to speak to the kids in a way that they understood best. Each time, before I speak to a group, I pray for God to use me to say what He wants them to hear (and also not faint from nerves). If I’m being honest, I don’t typically remember much of what I had said, but every time, I receive feedback on how awesome and articulated it was. That could only be the Holy Spirit, no doubt. It’s certainly not me!
What a crazy, blessed, chaotic, wonderful month March has been. Seeing God move in the lives of our students and on the college campus is a marvelous thing to see. Being a part of that is even better! Though I’ve been pushed way out of my comfort zone this month, I feel God is preparing me for something great soon. I’m eager to see how the final month of the semester goes and the more inspiring work God will do.
Thank you again for all your support! I’m looking forward to sharing more with you next month.
God bless!
