Mosaic Internship Newsletter No. 8

Happy fall, readers!

I’m not sure what it’s like from where you’re reading from, but it’s beginning to transition into autumn here in Alaska. The trees are quickly changing color from a rich green to vibrant yellow and orange. As of now, when I’m writing this, there is still plenty of green to go around. But in the blink of an eye, it’ll all be gorgeous fall colors, which I'm looking forward to!

August was an eventful and entertaining month, just in time for the new school year to begin! I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of things and having a more routine schedule back on campus. But before that, let’s take a look at this past month!

We took a trip with some students to Oklahoma for Collegiate Week!

This was particularly exciting because Mosaic (as far as I know) hasn’t taken any students before to Collegiate Week. If you have read my last post, you will see that Collegiate Week is an opportunity for college students and leaders to spend time in fellowship and to learn. It definitely lived up to its name and was a fantastic experience (aside from my baggage getting lost for a couple days). Despite the 104-degree heat (thank the Lord for AC!), we all learned and/or grew in some fashion. One of my favorite parts was seeing our students’ excitement for the new school year and their personal growth in their walk with God. I got a chance to grow closer with them as well, which made my heart happy.

I also learned a lot myself and spent the majority of my time interacting with international mission groups for a passion that's been weighing on my heart. Which leads me to my next highlight:

I’m returning to Japan in the spring for a couple weeks!

I'm so excited to share this with everyone. A couple months ago, I had a nagging feeling that I was to return to Japan sometime in the spring. At first, I thought it was just a passing thought, but it kept returning to my mind.

So what did I do? I started to pray about it. After praying alone for over a month, I felt God was telling me it was time to speak to my team. I was so excited that I could finally tell someone! Of course, they matched my enthusiasm, and I purchased my tickets.

So what is my vision? In about two years, I want to lead a small team of students to do short-term mission work in Japan. Mission planning takes time though, so I am going on this trip meet with my YWAM crew, contacts, and other resources we gather to start laying the foundations! I had a video call with my YWAM director recently, and she was so excited and encouraged to hear about this vision. Plus, it will be so refreshing to reconnect with my team and friends, as well as enjoy the country of Japan once more.

Campus Kickoff and Fall Launch have officially kickstarted the new school year!

Like clockwork, the new school year has rolled around. Although overwhelming at times, it was wonderful to be back on campus again and to see current and new students. The hallways and quads are alive with excitement and activity, which is awesome to see.

Our Campus Kickoff was a great intro to the school year and an amazing opportunity to meet new students. On the Saturday before classes, all the clubs and organizations at UAA come together to showcase who they are and what they do. There are always some kind of fun games for students to partake in, so we did a prize wheel (which was highly successful). We had about 90 people fill out our connect cards at the kickoff wanting to hear more about Mosaic and/or the Christian faith! Praise God for that!

We then had fun events throughout the first week, from late game nights to capture the flag and LOTS of food. It was a busy week for sure, but with the help of our Student Leaders and the visiting MercyHill Mission team, we were able to accomplish so much! Speaking of the Student Leaders, they are absolutely crushing it and I for one am so proud. Also, shoutout to the MercyHill team, we are so grateful and thankful for you!

I am looking forward to seeing God move on campus and in the lives of our students; I feel like He has big plans coming our way!

Well, that’s all I have for now. But stay tuned for fun updates now that the school year is underway! As always, God bless and I will see you again next month!
