Mosaic Internship Newsletter No. 9

Happy September, readers!

I hope y’all are doing well this season. Even though the bitterly, cold mornings and snow creeping down the mountains remind me winter is near, I am enjoying our fall time in Alaska. The colors are stunning, I can pull out my comfy sweaters and cozy up by the fire with my tasty fall treats. If only it lasted longer in Alaska! I’d be on cloud 9.

This month wasn’t overly eventful Mosaic-wise, but a few fun and encouraging things have happened! Let’s take a look:

1. I love being a part of our Ladies Journey Group!

Since I’m still support-raising, my involvement with Mosaic has decreased while I work toward getting fully funded. Although it is difficult to not be as present, I do know that it is the right thing to do. But thankfully, I’ve been able to participate in our girl's small group/Bible study (which we call Journey Groups). We have a couple girls on our Student Leadership Team who have graciously opened up their dorm to host and lead the Journey Group for this year. And they are crushing it! After every meeting, I leave feeling encouraged and filled. We also have a few girls who are new to Christianity and feel safe enough to ask open and honest questions. I am so grateful we have the space for that, and even more proud of our leaders for creating it. I can’t wait to see how we will bond this year, address those “hard-to-ask” questions, and develop deeper relationships with each other and most importantly, with God.

2. Mosaic had their annual Fall Camping Trip recently, and it was an absolute blast!

As excited as I was for the camping trip, I couldn’t help but feel slightly anxious since two of our staff are away, and I’d have to step up a bit more as a leader. I was more nervous about leading two devotionals since public speaking always terrifies me, and I wanted to articulate it well. (FYI, it went just fine, and I received good feedback from the students).

Luckily, the trip was pleasant and successful! After getting settled into camp, much of my anxiety dissipated, and I enjoyed just being there with our students. I felt like I bonded well with them, and I don’t think anything really “went wrong” (except a few minor injuries here and there).

It was frigid since the temperature dropped rapidly, but that meant just more time to spend around the roaring fire, sharing laughs and deep conversations. Campfire talks are one of my favorite things to do, so I wasn’t disappointed that we spent most hours around it.

It was stunningly beautiful, and I got to go on a few adventures with the students around the lake! So many fantastic memories and moments, I can’t wait to go next year. But maybe we will go earlier or pack warmer!

3. My support-raising meetings have been very encouraging!

Good news! I'm over halfway to my fundraising goal, so praise God for that! I’ve had some very encouraging meetings this month, with many expressing their excitement about our desire to expand to the Matsu campus (which is the Wasilla/Palmer campus). Although I haven’t gained any new Ministry Partners yet, I am encouraged by how they want to support and find ways to help me. I anticipate many presentations and spotlight opportunities are on the horizon. I’m honestly just so happy to see things in motion, getting connected to wonderful people, and seeing God move in the lives around me. I can’t wait to see what He has in store these next few months.

Before wrapping up, I would like to ask you to please keep us staff in your prayers. Although an encouraging season, it has been tremendously hard for all of us. Difficult news, family emergencies/losses, and challenging times have surrounded us. However, Mosaic continues to thrive and that is a tremendous encouragement to us!

As always, thank you so much for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful month ahead! I will see you all again at the end of October. God bless!
